About us

Finland’s largest research community for pediatric diseases

The Pediatric Research Center is located in Helsinki, in the Meilahti hospital area. Here, our research groups work in the largest Faculty of Medicine in Finland, the largest children’s hospital in the Nordic countries and several other research institutes located in the area. We are involved in globally competitive medical research and medical innovations which we apply to the treatment of pediatric diseases and offer to the entire health care system of Finland to use.

The Pediatric Research Center consists of some 30 research groups from all the key fields of pediatric medicine. Our research comprises of basic, clinical and translational research. The research data we generate can be refined to be used when treating patients. On the other hand, we use patient samples in the investigation of disease mechanisms and diagnoses.

Research and treatment closely connected

The Pediatric Research Center connects research and medical treatment. Furthermore, we create a foundation for research and treatment at the New Children’s Hospital.

Socially and internationally active

In addition to conducting high-class research, we communicate information about our latest achievements to the research community, our patients and their parents, the general public, political decision-makers and funders of science. We want to bring together researchers and businesses to encourage scientific cooperation. We are highly committed to the maintenance of health and the treatment of illnesses.

Our funding

The Pediatric Research Center is funded by HUS and The Foundation for Pediatric Research. Each researcher and research group obtains their own funding and resources from universities, foundations and funds, for example.
